TOWARDS THE THIRD POLE

This spring Poppis Suomela, the polar explorer, is going on a quest to reach the third pole of planet earth. During April and May, he will climb to the summit of Mt. Everest, the world’s highest mountain.
If successful, he will be the seventh person in the world who has been to all three of its poles.

Like the expeditions before him, Poppis is interested in how humans adapt to extreme conditions, both physically and mentally. The two-month expedition will put both physical and mental capacity to the ultimate test. Safety will always come first, however.

The expedition’s principal challenge is the thin air at high altitude. Weather conditions may also be extreme, with winds rising up to storms and
temperatures as low as -40 degrees centigrade As he approached the top of the world, Poppis will be using a mask for extra oxygen to minimise risks.
